Dear Anderson –
Please forgive such a tardy answer to your letter, but then I am a poor correspondent and a kind inertia sets in at the thought of writing. Since I haven’t been teaching for two years I am not up on what’s going on in the art schools in town – but I see what your situation is and I shall keep my ear open for any talk about jobs and believe me I will be delighted to speak of you. My impression is that you would be (or are) an exciting teacher. I hear of painters getting jobs at Pratt or Brooklyn Museum School but I think pay is low, that is, lower than out of town. Do you want to go out of N.Y.?
After leaving Rome, we went to Amsterdam for 10 days and then home via London. Instead of staying in N.Y. I went up to the country to paint and have just recently come back to the city. I didn’t see the Whitney show so I can’t report on that. I saw so much in Europe this last summer that it is going to take me considerable time to absorb and think and work.
Please give my best to your wife.
Sincerely,
Philip Guston
